Dear Rotary Leaders of the Europe-Africa Region

After 24 years of outstanding service to the Rotary International Secretariat, Europe-Africa Office (EAO) Manager Jürg Kobler will retire at the end of January.

Jürg has distinguished himself in service to Europe-Africa Rotarians and in leadership of EAO staff from the beginning of his Rotary career in January 1986 to the present day. His managerial roles evolved in accordance with the evolution of the Secretariat’s own international structure -- from oversight of EAO’s “Service to DGs and Clubs,” “Membership Services,” and “Club and District Administration” sections to his official appointment as EAO Manager on 1 December 2002. In each role, Jürg brought a high level of professionalism to his approach earning him the esteem and respect of Rotarians and staff alike. His cultural sensitivity, knowledge of the region, analytical capabilities, and commitment to excellence have been of great support to Rotarians addressing the historic opportunities and challenges of increasing membership in Europe and Africa.

Please join me in thanking Jürg for his excellent contribution to Rotary service in Europe and Africa and in wishing him well in his retirement.

I have appointed EAO Assistant Manager Marco Nicosia to serve as Acting EAO Manager for a period of six months beginning 1 February 2010. To prepare him for this important role, over the past several years Marco was assigned oversight responsibilities of all key EAO RI-TRF functions on a rotating basis. Marco looks forward to leading EAO staff in support of your efforts and those of all Rotarians of the region in the spirit of excellence with which Jürg has so energetically conducted affairs.
